Blogging goes mainstream…

September 6, 2007

In the US at least. Synovate reports that nearly half of all Americans visit blogs with 80% knowing what a blog is. The report also found that while readership is strong, authorship is a lowly 8%. Read a more detailed press release here.

DOCTORS ADOPT SOCIAL NETWORKING

August 29, 2007

I can no longer count the number of social networks I belong to on my hands but one of my favourites is LinkedIn – a professional networking site for business contacts and talent recruitment. I read an interesting article at WSJ Online about the rise of professional social networks and was particularly interested to hear about one for Doctors – sermo.com – a vibrant online brains trust all about health by doctors, for doctors. Are they fads? I don’t think so. Niche yes, but collectively, these niche communities all have “long tail” value.

QCODES IN ACTION

August 22, 2007

I’ve just set up my phone (Nokia N70) with a QCode reader and can’t believe how easily it all works. Try it for yourself.

STEP 1 DOWNLOAD THE READER SOFTWARE

If you have a WAP enabled phone point your browser to http://reader.kaywa.com – if your phone is compatible it will detect and prompt you to download and install the application.

STEP 2 GENERATE A TAG

Go to http://www.semapedia.com/ and type in the URL for your fav Wikipedia page. It will generate a tag in a PDF for you.

STEP 3 SNAP THE TAG

Open the code reader on your phone, wave it in front of the code and HEY PRESTO, your phone will prompt you to navigate to that Wikipedia page.
